Why I’m Building LowEMF.life

Five goals for making building biology easier to practice.

By Ben Pellow · · 2 min read

When I started looking, I couldn’t find a single active building biologist in Southern Oregon. The first two former Electromagnetic Radiation Specialists (EMRS) I met here told me the same thing: they hated writing reports, so they quit. That planted the seed for LowEMF.life.

Here’s what I’m building it to do:

  1. Make reports easy. Easy data input, with no more juggling a clipboard and a meter. Easy report generation that takes most of the time and effort out of writing a report.
  2. Make business easy. Automate what it takes to run a small EMRS or Building Biology Environmental Consultant (BBEC) practice: tracking clients, scheduling, data retention, marketing, SEO, and websites. New graduates can focus on healthier buildings instead of managing every part of a small business.
  3. Add consistency. A shared vocabulary across the industry, with common visualizations, reporting styles, product recommendations, and work orders.
  4. Raise the bar. Check that every report meets a clear quality standard before it reaches a client.
  5. Gather insights. Down the road, practitioners will be able to opt in to sharing anonymized data, so the whole industry can learn from patterns no single practice could see.

If you’re an EMRS or building biologist and this sounds like the tool you’ve been wishing for, I’d love to hear from you.
